Thankful Thursday!

Well, I think it has been about a year since I have posted a Thankful Thursday post, but I feel like I ought to post about the things I really am thankful for right now:

Lorna:

She brought me these beautiful flowers. What a peach. She is such a good friend. I am thankful to work with somebody like her.

Prayer:
I have used prayer to get me through the last week (it was a rough one). I know that the Lord is watching over me and aware of my needs and the desires of my heart. My Heavenly Father has been quick to answer many prayers in the last couple days and I am SO thankful for that.

Pretty Little Things:
I have been able to purchase a few little lovelies the past day or so and I have enjoyed them. Just things like vintage playing cards and Marie Antoinette inspired stationary.

Warm Weather:
I have been thankful for this a lot... but I can't say it enough! I LOVE THE WARM WEATHER.

My soft bed:
I was without it for a time and now I have it back and it feels like a little piece of heaven right here on Earth.

I am also thankful for all of my family and friends. Without your love, support, wisdom, and advice... I wouldn't be able to get through the day!

PEACE!

Remodel Part 1

So, this is our living room.... minus furniture and new window treatments. I took a photo with the flash and without. We are kind of enjoying this whole "do it yourself" home improvement stuff. The before photo of this room is a few posts below (click here). More photos to come soon! YAY.

STATUS UPDATE

Well folks... just thought I should update you on the status of our existence. We made a flying trip to SLC/Provo last weekend to go and retrieve our stuff out of storage. It has been in storage since April! It was a fast trip but all went smoothly. We had the help of Gary, Nick, and Frank! Thanks you guys! We appreciate it. I listened to the book A Clockwork Orange in the truck on the way there and back... VERY good read. I loved it.

We arrived in Las Vegas and Harrison had quite a few people from our new ward that were there to help unload our truck. YAY. I was late getting back to Las Vegas, but I was so happy to see all of our stuff in the house.

We have been unpacking and Harrison has been fixing little things here and there to get the house functioning smoothly. I am so happy to have OUR stuff back and especially MY washer and dryer. HA.

The cats are adapting well and I really think they LOVE the open spaces at the new house. Quite a space change from a small cracker jack apartment to a 2 story abode.

We are anxious to have visitors, so please come and see us. We have plenty of space and plenty of bathrooms :)

SEE YOU SOON!!

At Long Last

Well suckas, after six months of jumping through hoops and keeping meticulous track of all of our income and bills and submitting all of that to total strangers. And then waiting patiently for lazy a corporate fatcats to sign simple paperwork, we have a house.
It has been a long wait and there have been many visits to Lowe's and Home Depot leaving empty handed because we were unsure of when we would get the place. Now we can finally get our plans started.

Here is the place:

It is a 3 bd 2.5 bath place in Green Valley near Pecos and Robindale. Look it up if you want. We are getting all our projects in line to improve the place. We have started painting and we are going to do some carpet and bamboo floors. And the other stuff will come little by little.

So we want to publicly declare: The visits to Las Vegas can begin. We would love to have you come and visit us. We have an extra queen bed and a twin bed, plus a queen size aero-bed so we have the room. Plus Las Vegas is a fun place, there is plenty to do even if you don't like to gamble. Just send us an email to let us know.

If you are in the area too we will be picking up our stuff in Orem on Saturday Jan 9 with a 26 foot truck and bringing it to Henderson the same day. Feel free to come help if you can :)

So After all the ordeals I have a list of blessings and curses to give:

Bless:
-Our wonderful realtor: Megan Nelson of Century 21 Moneyworld-call her if you want to buy in Las Vegas or Henderson she is the best.
-The second mortgage company and mortgage team, Norbert Gyorfi and his staff at Mountain View Mortgage, that jumped through hoops for us to be able to purchase this place. Call him if you want to get a loan in Las Vegas or Henderson.

Curses:
-All banks that own these foreclosed homes. We put in around 20 offers when all was said and done. We had been under contract with another home only to walk away after no progress for two months. Then we got under contract with this house and the bank moved like molasses in winter to get every tiny step done.
-Our old mortgage company Nevada Federal Credit Union that nearly put a death sentence on this home as well. Luckily we were able to salvage the deal with Norbert and his team.

Christmas Kitties!

Well, Happy Holidays everybody! Just thought I would announce the new arrival of our 2 newest members of our family. Please say hello to Spock and Dude, our new Bengal cats.

This is Spock

This is Dude

It took a day or two for the kitties to get used to us, but as you can see, they are fitting in just fine.

Just wanted to let you know how we are doing and how our "family" is growing.

FYI- we should get the keys to our new house (finally) this next week. I will definitely keep you posted on that when it happens!

Merry Christmas from Feller Orthodontics

So, a lot of people ask about where I work and what I do. Well, this is our 2009 Christmas picture. Good times. It is VERY difficult working in an office full of women (and two dudes) but I find my job very fulfilling as long as I can stay out of the constant drama and bull crap that goes on when working with women (which I try to stay out of very hard).

Here we are!

What we've been up to

Well, we've had a few folks ask why we haven't blogged and what the heck we do in our spare time here in Vegas. We don't have a lot of spare time (which is good because we are working really hard :) and stuff) but I thought I would post about a few of the date nights and date days we have had the last little while. ***Disclaimer: All of these photos were taken with my cell phone, so sorry about the poor quality.

PINBALL HALL OF FAME
Who knew that there was a pinball hall of fame? I sure didn't. Harrison found this little gem while he was trying to find fun things to do with his clients. He found this place and a day or so after he took his client, we went for a date night. It was super fun.

There were pinball machines there from as early as the 1940's. They also had brand new ones that came out this past year. There are easily 200 + pinball machines at this place. The other cool thing about The Pinball Hall of Fame is that there are all types of people that are there. There were older biker dudes and young kids and hipster teenagers and twenty-somethings there as well. It was really cool to see all walks of life at this place.

TAKING TRIPS TO THE STRIP
When I was growing up here in Las Vegas, The Strip was always someplace we went when a new cool casino opened or when family came into town. It has only been recently that I have changed that mentality and decided that we can go to The Strip anytime we want to... and we do. There are TONS of free or inexpensive things to do (if you look hard or are aware of them) in this part of town. Here are a couple of pictures of Harrison and I at the Mirage "Volcano Show" one night.

WINDOW SHOPPING
Window shopping is one of my favorite (free) things to do on The Strip and in town. I love all of the window displays the stores have. It seems that the same type stores try to outdo their competitors with the window displays which makes it exciting to see every few months.

IMPERIAL PALACE CAR MUSEUM
I had this planned as a date one night, but I had wrong information, and by the time we got to the museum it was closed for the night (boo). So, we went another day and had a good time. Anybody who knows us, knows that we love cars. So there wasn't a second thought about going to the museum (especially since I found free pass coupons on the Internet). I used to go to this museum like once a year with my family when I was growing up... and it was just as fun as a grown-up as it was as a kid (although there wasn't a DeLorean this time (which used to be my favorite)... most of the cars are for sale, so most of them come and go). Here are a few cool things we saw.

The Shelby GT 500 is one of my fav's

This was a cool display. Johnny Carson's car is in this museum and it has a really cool story to go along with it. I won't bore you with the story (since I took a picture of the story... so read it yourself).

I just had to add this photo of the Dodge Viper because I love them and so does my brother. I took this photo and emailed it to him to make him jealous. Harrison and I think its pretty cool to live in a REAL city. A city with no limits or stops. We see pretty awesome (and very expensive) cars all the time. It just goes to show you that people around this town have REAL money to spend. Even though the economy in Las Vegas is one of the worst in the country right now, the folks who have the real money want to flaunt it for sure!

Well, this is just a peek into the life of Jaala and Harrison and what we do here in Vegas. We haven't had the chance to hang out with any friends really, but we don't let that get us down. We LOVE being with each other and hanging out with each other!

PEACE TO YALL!

6 Months in Vegas

The 18th of November marked 6 months that we have been here in Vegas, we celebrated that day by getting a place of our own. We still haven't gotten a house but we just needed to get a place to ourselves that we could actually call ours. So in classic Jaala and Harrison style we made the decision to move on Tuesday evening and had our stuff moved in on Wednesday evening. When we had all our stuff ready to load up it was amazing that it all fit into one little room.

This is the room we had, with most of our stuff moved out.

This is all the stuff. Not the chairs or the TV but most of the luggage and boxes and stuff is ours.

We are now in a 1bd apartment which is great because it is ours (sort of) and we don't have to feel like we are infringing on anyone's life. We are still trying to get a house closed, so that is still on the horizon. We have about three weeks until we will know if we are going to get the place or not.

Awesomely Argyle

Yes, it's true. It seems that the argyle print has taken over my life. I wear it EVERYDAY. No this is serious people. I wear it everyday. Whether it is my cute closet full of new argyle sweaters or it is my argyle printed socks... I am wearing it. Is it a problem? You be the judge. I am going to take photos for the next two weeks and post what I wear everyday. Even though the photo below is NOT in my collection, I have some that are similar. So, the journey begins. I hope you enjoy the next 7-10 days.
